My family and I went this winter. The christmas trees were out of this world. The Christmas tour is by far the best. I just wish I would have gotten to see all the beautiful trees in the front before they cut them down.
I well agree with everyone... I am 17 years old I went the the Biltmore Estate as my gift for getting past the 10th grade..Being 17 I thought it was for "old people" or something that i wouldnt enjoy..My trip was December 18 to January 3,2007..it was ABSOLUTELY GREAT..seeing this picture is nothing like seeing the real thing...thinkin about a trip to North Carolina? The price of admissions to this place is gloriously overpriced! $60 during the busy holiday season (of when I and a guest attended) and $35 during the least busy working season. The house is beautiful and amazing but if I built a house and charged people on average $45 per day visit throughout the year to tour it, I'm quite sure I can make it more pleasing with at least one roller coaster to boot plus with the ability for the guests to use the pool! On a serious note, if budget permits and you're in the area, it's an unforgettable place to visit. Maybe the fact that I'm from America's playground of Orlando, Florida makes me feel this is a little overpriced to just walk around a richly historic house, which is pretty much all you can do unless you pay more for the other services they provide. Arrive early or expect to wait long. After the purchase of tickets we waited three hours touring the outside of the estate before we were allowed in. On the same day, we visited Chimney Rock Park, and for flat land dwellers, like us Floridians, this place was spectacularly amazing and was much more worthwhile with nature's majestic beauty, thrills of vertigo, and the general low admission of $17 per person per day to tour (walk around). In my two-cents, nature's richness beats man's richness, but maybe this is just an argument between public vs. private.
No cameras or video is allowed so expect to keep the beauty of this place alive only in the memories of distant past and the generic photos of the internet.
My wife and I were returning to Texas after Christmas on the Outer Banks. I remember my mom saying there was a house in Ashville named after relatives on my Mom's side:"Blackmer House." Then we heard about Biltmore Estate and ended up staying a week at the INN. Unforgettable! We've been back since, in early Summer, and the gardens just blew us away. If you can, by all means visit!
All that Biltmore Estate offers cannot be fully digested in one tour. March was wind chilled but sunny with no waiting lines. My two friends and I spent four unhurried hours of self-guided touring (renting the $10. headsets for enhanced information) to view 55 rooms... well worth the expense. I'm going to be pondering this experience for many more hours. I thoroughly enjoyed the architectures magnitude and design equipped with cutting edge modernization for the late 1800's. Priceless antiques, beautiful decor... it is overwhelming, stunning and thought provoking throughout the house. Gardens and far reaching landscape is undoubtedly magnificent year round. An awesome tour I would be thrilled to repeat any time of the year.
I visited this beauty with my Grandmother. It was the most wonderful thing I have ever seen. My grandmonther took lots of pictures and made a scrapbook story about an old lady and a lost boy. Everyone loves to read it! Disneyland was fun but this place was more magical because you really could feel like you were in a palace! Worth every penny and worth the memory of a great day with just Grandma and me. Some may say that it is costly but I will say that I would pay more because it is not something you get to see often. Go! You will not be disapointed!!!!! I promise!!
