This Month’s Desktop Pictures

This month’s photos were taken by ATPM reader Tim Allen, who writes:

All the photos were taken with a Canon EOS 350D D-SLR, mostly with a Canon 28–135mm IS USM lens but some with the Canon 18–55mm kit lens and some with a Sigma 50mm macro. Despite my love of Photoshop, none of these images have been retouched; all I have done is crop some of them slightly, and converted some to mono. I much prefer to get the shot right in camera if I can.

Car Park at Night

Bluewater Shopping Centre in Kent. Just after Christmas in the early evening, I think everyone had run out of money! My son thinks it looks like a scene from Star Wars.

Chains

I have a 50mm macro lens, and I thought this keychain made an interesting subject.

Engraved

From a cemetry, a simple shot where depth of field makes a big difference.

Field

Taken near where I live in Kent, this is about as wide as my 28-135mm lens goes, and makes me want a wider lens in the future.

Leaf on Sky

From a National Trust garden; the sky was fantastic that day.

Moss

Again, the depth of field makes the shot here.

Ragged Flower

From my parents garden—although this plant was in a bad way the colours and shapes looked nice.

Shadows and Shapes

From a WWII memorial in Kenley. I loved the shadows.

Steps of Despair

This was taken near London Bridge and was one of those lucky, perfectly timed shots to capture his body language. I’m proud to say this won “Nikon picture of the month” in Practical Photography magazine this month, which won me a Nikon compact camera.

Village View

This overlooks the village where I live; it was average in color but become very pleasing in mono.

Water Drops

A cliched shot but it came out well, again with the macro lens.

Water’s Edge

Again, taken near London Bridge, a close-up of a water feature. I like the angles and glossiness of the water.

Have a regular print but no scanner? Don’t worry. E-mail us, and we tell you where to send it so we can scan it for you. Note that we cannot return the original print, so send us a copy.
