The Rules
Each question has only one correct answer. The answers are stored in a hermetically sealed envelope guarded by a devoted Bengal cat named “Kira” who lives in our house.
This Month’s CD Recommendation
“Brand New Day” by Sting—another eclectic collection of intriguing forays into various musical genres from Sting. With Stevie Wonder, James Taylor, Branford Marsalis, and a veritable cast of thousands, this is an album that both demands and greatly rewards repeated playings. Stevie Wonder’s harmonica work in the title track alone is worth the price of the CD!
Parting Pointer
The “Parting Pointer” is ATPM’s “Tips and Tricks” section. If you have a pointer that you would like to share with other readers to make their Mac experience easier or more enjoyable, please send it to me at egoss@atpm.com. Here’s this month’s “Parting Pointer”:
Anarchie lets you use pattern matching in its path boxes (the little browser-style text boxes at the tops of its windows). For instance, if you connect to ftp.atpm.com by typing ftp://ftp.atpm.com/ATPM*07* into the path box you will be shown a list of all ATPM back issues published in July.
Regular Expressions are a language for specifying patterns of text to match. For instance, # matches a number and .* matches zero or more non-return characters. BBEdit is probably the easiest way to try them out on the Mac. Its user manual and Apple Guide explain the basics well. Strictly speaking, Anarchie does not support regular expressions—they’re actually just wildcards (which are not as powerful).
