Ahh, the Ocracoke Light. I remember the first time I saw it and the last time I saw it. The digital rendition is very nice. It takes me back to a time when I liked calling North Carolina 'home'.

Glad you enjoyed the image. There's an interesting side note to this part of my trip. My parents had already seen this light in the past, and because we were in an RV on those tiny roads, and the tourists were crawling like ants everywhere, they just drove by, I hopped out to get several shots, they drove around a couple times, I came back just as they were passing by the second time, I hopped back in, and we continued our trip. :-)

This lighthouse is amazing! That's why I'm doing a report on it. If you have any idea of how many steps there are, please reply.

It's kinda tough to find information about number of steps in lighthouses that are 1) not open for climbing and 2) aren't all that tall.

While it doesn't talk about the number of steps, there's a good page on this lighthouse at the Lighthouse Getaway web site.

Ocracoke Island is my favorite retreat. Right now I'm doing a report on the Ocracoke light. I've been to the island two times with my dad. That's where we spend time since I don't get to see him on a regular basis. I love the island's people, cats, stores, and the lighthouse, plus the island scenary. One of my favorite places was the British cemetary. I wandered around the tombstones looking at the names and writing about them. Since I'm at school, and it's boring, I decided to post a message on this page to tell you guys how much I love the island. I'm coming again to the island this summer. One of my favorite things to do was to walk to the Ocracoke coffee and bookstore cafe with my dad around 8am. The island all together is something I look forward to all year. Talk to you all later.

Seeing this lighthouse in all it's glorybrings back fond memories of my childhood.Every summer my mom, grandmother and I would take the ferry over to Ocracoke. We would walk around and take in the wonderful scenery, enjoy the gift shops and friendly island people, not to mention the delicious food on the island!I look forward to the day when I can carry my family over, maybe this summer!! I know my husband and three children [who have never been!] will enjoy it very much also.I can't wait to go back to see how it has changed.Maybe this will become a tradition for my family!
